A green home doesn't have to compromise beauty or natural light. ODL door glass can be used in exterior doors to meet NAHB Green Building Standard specifications, and increase the energy efficiency of your home. ODL is an ENERGY STAR® stakeholder.
When installed in the proper door, select ODL doorglass products meet regional ENERGY STAR® thermal performance standards as defined by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and Natural Resources-Canada (NR-Can). Find out more about energy efficiency specifications in your area. Local and state codes are developed using ENERGY STAR® guidelines but may be more or less stringent.
Thermal performance of door glass is measured by two properties: resistance to heat flow and resistance to sunlight warmth.
Energy efficiency ratings for ODL doorglass products vary by door construction, size of doorglass, and the materials of the doorglass assembly.
The ratings of participating entry door manufacturers can be found in the Thermal Performance Database. Contact ODL for more information about which entry door and doorglass combinations meet ENERGY STAR® requirements.
The U.S. standards include criteria for air leakage. Swinging doors cannot exceed 0.5 cfm/ft2.
Note: See the complete list of U.S. ENERGY STAR® climate zones by state and county or zip code.
Canadian standards are the same for opaque and glazed doors.
Canadian standards include a criteria for air leakage: leakage cannot exceed 1.5 L/s/m2, or 0.3 cfm/ft2.
A full description of the 2020 ENERGY STAR® technical specifications for residential windows and doors sold in Canada is available through Natural Resources Canada.
The ENERGY STAR® Windows Program is a voluntary partnership between the Department of Energy (DOE) and the fenestration industry (NFRC) to promote sales of energy efficient windows, doors, and skylights. The ENERGY STAR® program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to help consumers identify products that meet criteria for energy efficiency and quality. More energy efficient windows and doorglass mean less money spent on utilities and less impact on the environment.
