Missile Impact Standards
The ICC Standard for Residential Construction in High Wind Regions specifies that doors, skylights, and windows in the windborne debris region shall be either impact resistant or protected with an impact resistant covering. The windborne debris region is defined in the Standard as regions within one mile of the coastal mean high water line where the basic wind speed is 110 mph or greater and in all regions where the basic wind speed shown is 120 mph or greater.

The High Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ) is defined as all areas with wind speeds in excess of 140 mph. Dade/Broward County is defined as the HVHZ according to the Florida Building Code. In large missile impact tests for the HVHZ an 8-foot 2x4 is fired at 50 feet per second at designated spots on the doorglass and door slab. The entire unit must then remain intact through 9000 pressure cycles and also pass water infiltration, structural loading, forced entry resistance, and air infiltration tests.

Florida
The Florida building code has wind zone specific performance requirements. Doors in the windborne debris region must meet the missile impact standard or be shuttered. The windborne debris region in Florida is broken down into four Wind Zones. Zone 1 is the area of the coast with wind speeds in the range of 110 to 120 mph. Zone 4 is the HVHZ.
Approved Systems
ODL Severe Weather® Doorglass can be used with an impact rated door system to meet Florida building code (FBC) requirements in the windborne debris regions, including the HVHZ.
Approved entrance systems can be found on the Florida state building code website, or the Miami-Dade county building code website. They are also listed below with their certifications.
Component Approval FL 9974
The new hybrid style Severe Weather® doorglass has a FBC component approval that allows it to be substituted in any glazed door or sidelight with an approved missile impact NOA or FBC approval for use in the HVHZ. No additional testing is required. Both the original approval and the component approval (FL 9974) will need to be provided to the inspector. Severe Weather® Doorglass can also be used to replace shuttered sidelights that are part of an approved opaque door impact certification. Severe Weather® Doorglass cannot be used with an opaque door impact NOA to create a glazed door. Click on the link below for a copy of the FL 9974 component approval documents.
The older style Severe Weather® doorglass assembly is shown in all the entrance system approvals below. Miami-Dade County NOA #07-0214.07 is a component approval that allows the older style to be substituted in any glazed door or sidelight with an approved missile impact NOA or FBC approval for use in the HVHZ.

Texas
The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) has established criteria for protection from wind-borne debris in both the Inland 1 and Seaward zones.
Approved Systems
ODL has tested the doors listed below with Severe Weather® doorglass.
The test reports are on file at the TDI and can be referenced with
the pre-hanger's application. The pre-hanger is responsible for getting
their entrance system certified and applying labels. If the pre-hanger uses
any of these doors they can obtain a TDI door report. Click

Department of Defense Anti-Terrorist Blast Standards
ODL Hurricane impact doorglass can be used to meet DOD minimum anti-terrorist blast standards (see UFC4-010-01) provided the door system is an outswing door with a maximum 3080 door system and a bumper sill installed with a minimum 2 1/2" #10 wood screw 3" on center.
