Design Pressure

The Florida building code has wind zone specific performance requirements. A Design Pressure (DP) standard is defined for all projects located in the state. Other states are also adopting DP requirements.

Design pressure requirements can vary as they are based on product location on the building, height of the building, density of buildings, and wind zone designation. The positive DP number is the standard for wind blowing at the building (windward) and the negative DP number represents the vacuum pressure on the opposite side of the building (leeward).

All ODL doorglass products (decorative glass, clear glass, Integral blinds) with HP and HP Pro frames are certified, with a minimum DP rating of +/- 55, to meet the DP requirements of the code in 1 and 2 story buildings. Transoms and bath windows have a +/- 130 DP rating and meeting code requirements for fixed windows. These doorglass, transom and bath window products are not impact resistant and will require shutters in the wind-borne debris region.

NOTE: The design pressure rating for a glazed entrance system is the lowest certified rating of the system or any component within the system. With a +/- 55 DP rating ODL doorglass meets the DP requirements of most job sites.
